Thanks to everyone who attended and helped to organize the Community FireSmart Information Session on November 20. Approximately 45 community members attended, enjoyed a delicious dinner together, door prizes, and informative presentations.
The session was hosted by the TLKemchEEn FireSmart Committee and included four presentations:
-
Rick Adam and Judy Tam from BFL Canada and John Hastings from Aviva shared an Insurance 101 presentation.
-
Malina Garner from the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society of B.C. provided an overview of the FireSmart BC Wildfire Mitigation Program (FireSmart BC). This program is designed to help communities prepare for wildfires by engaging residents in voluntary mitigation activities. The program includes professional home assessments that provide property-specific recommendations to reduce wildfire risks. Participants can earn certification for their mitigation efforts, which may also lead to insurance incentives.
-
Keiran Fontaine from the BC Wildfire Service provided an overview of the 2025 wildfire season highlighting provincial wildfire statistics and the volume and types of resources deployed during the 2025 season.
- Lytton Fire and Rescue’s Fire Chief Kyle Parker shared an overview of the department’s current capacity, services, new equipment, and training. Interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter? Find information at www.lytton.ca/fire-rescue.
