Open burning of yard waste on properties in the Village is only allowed with an active burning permit.
Burning is subject to permit approval and to the following conditions:
- No person shall operate an incinerator or burning barrel, nor burn prohibited debris. (Burn only grass, weeds, leaves and prunings, clean wood material, etc.)
- All fires are to be attended by an adult and controlled at all times and are the full responsibility of the permittee.
- No burning is permitted during winds exceeding 20 km per hour.
- Sufficient quantity of fire extinguishing materials will be kept at the site.
- Flammable material will be removed to form a one-meter-wide strip surrounding the fire.
- Flame will be less than 12 inches in height, and the fire will be less than one meter (3.5 ft) in diameter.
- All other conditions are met according to Burning Bylaw No. 619, 2009.
- Applicant is responsible for all costs incurred if the Fire Department is required to respond and extinguish the fire.

How to apply
To apply for a burning permit:
- Fill in the Burning Permit Application. Alternatively, pick up a copy at the Village Office.
- Submit the completed application to the Village Office either via email or in person.
- Staff (including the corporate officer and the fire chief) will review your application and may require more information.
- When approved, you can burn on the day and time specified in the permit, according to the above conditions.
