Lytton Fire & Rescue Service operates three fire apparatus:
- Engine 1
- Engine 2
- Rescue 1
Each serves a specific function and allows the team to be adequately prepared for any emergency that may arise within their scope of work.
Engine 1
This is the frontline pumper. It holds 4,500 litres of water and 135 litres of Class A firefighting foam, and has a pump that can move almost 5,000 litres of water per minute.
The truck hosts a complement of fire hoses including the following:
- 800 feet of 1.5-inch attack hose
- 1,000 feet of 2.5-inch supply/large attack hose
- 1,200 feet of 4-inch large diameter supply hose
It also carries the following:
- Forcible entry tools
- Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- A ventilation/rescue saw
- Ladders
- Pike poles
- Breathing air cylinders
- Medical first responder supplies
- Utility rope
- Fire extinguishers
- A thermal imaging camera
Engine 2
This is the reserve pumper. It carries the same equipment as Engine 1, in addition to a set of auto extrication tools. It serves the following roles:
- Support Engine 1 on vehicle and structure fires within the response area
- Assist the Rescue 1 truck on large-scale motor vehicle incidents
- Ensure that an engine is in place in the community when Engine 1 is out for pump certification, commercial vehicle inspections, or repairs
Rescue 1
This truck responds to the majority of Lytton Fire & Rescues calls to service. It responds to all medical aid, motor vehicle, rescue and public service calls.
The truck is essentially a rolling warehouse that hosts a vast complement of equipment, including the following:
- Hydraulic-powered cutters, spreaders, and telescopic ram ("jaws of life" that can lift a loaded train car)
- Lifting bags that can lift up to 90,000 lbs
- Forcible entry tools such as axes, halligan bars, and pry bars
- Various types of fire extinguishers
- Self-contained breathing apparatus
- Rope
- Fall protection harnesses
- Pneumatic cutting tools
- Portable 110V power
- Specialized vehicle stabilization struts
- Socket sets
- Carpentry tool kit
- Medical first responder supplies
- An automated external defibrillator
- Various amounts of cribbing to stabilize vehicles after car crashes
- In-cab charging station for flashlights
