FireSmart Home Ignition Zone Assessments

Taking action to FireSmart your property will decrease the risk of wildfire damaging your home.

What is a Home Ignition Zone?

The condition of your home and the area within 30 metres around it is the most important factor in whether your home will catch fire and be damaged during a wildfire. This area is called the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ).

A properly maintained HIZ can significantly lower the intensity of the fire and its ability to spread. When neighbours work together to establish interconnected HIZs, they can greatly reduce the risk of fire spreading from one house to another

How to book a free FireSmart Home Ignition Zone Assessment

There are two ways to book a free FireSmart Home Ignition Zone Assessment from an Local FireSmart Representative:

  1. Fill out the Home Ignition Zone Assessment Request form on the Lytton First Nation website, or 
  2. Call 250-455-2304 Ext 1002.

During an assessment, a local FireSmart Representative will provide a detailed work plan with recommendations specific to your property. For more information contact your local FireSmart Coordinator in your community at firesmart@lfn.band.

About the TLKemchEEn FireSmart Committee

The TLKemchEEn FireSmart Committee is a collaborative community working group of member organizations including Lytton First Nation, Village of Lytton, BC Wildfire Service, Thompson Nicola Regional District, Lytton Fire Rescue, BC Emergency Health Services and interested community members. 

In Lytton, the TLKemChEEN FireSmart Committee coordinates FireSmart activities for both the Village of Lytton and Lytton First Nation. The FireSmart program supports wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation through public education, assessments, and mitigative work to reduce community risk from wildfires.
