Future Forward: Progress Report

In late October 2025, the Village of Lytton invited residents, property owners, Nlaka’pamux governments, businesses and other community interests to provide feedback on future planning and development within the Village of Lytton through the update of the Official Community Plan (OCP).

This outreach provided an opportunity to document the greater community’s aspirations and vision, with a strong focus on economic development. The Progress Report and engagement results have been compiled and are posted below in the Council reports section.

Future Forward: Workbook

Staff have compiled the information received through the outreach efforts and are now seeking feedback from the broader community on the proposed vision and policy directions. The Future Forward Workbook has been designed to present the information gathered from participants in both informal and formal outreach activities, while also providing respondents with the opportunity to add additional preferences and comments.

The next stage of the OCP’s update process is to collect more detailed input on the directions of the document’s vision and policies. This workbook has been prepared to receive comments from the community on the objectives and policy directions of the current OCP and incorporate ideas and comments received through the engagement.

Instructions

It is estimated that it will take approximately 20 to 40 minutes to complete the workbook.

The workbook will be mailed to property owners. It is also available for printing or will be available pick-up at the Village Office and Parish Hall.

Next steps

As the community completes the Workbook, staff will be seeking additional technical information on the land conditions (environment, land use, hazards, etc.) and inviting the community to participate in a series of workshops about the future of Lytton.

In late January 2026, the workshops will be scheduled and advertised. The intent is to have in-depth discussions in the community about Lytton and various land use considerations such as: economic development, housing, food security and agriculture, arts and culture, climate resilience, energy security and green energy opportunities and infrastructure.

OCP Update workshop October 27, 2025

In the early evening of October 27, 2025, close to 30 people attended the inspiring and dynamic presentation (both in person or online). Monday’s meeting featured an introduction to the Official Community Plan update process with the Village’s Director of Development Caroline Lamont. Following this, guest speaker and economic development specialist Chris Fields shared a thought-provoking presentation about community planning, its relationship to economic development, and opportunities and challenges for the Village. Community members participated in online polling and some very short discussions about key themes. We also enjoyed a delicious dinner from Shari Aleck.

OCP Update community walkshop October 28, 2025

On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, 14 residents and one friendly pup joined the "walkshop" (walking workshop) in the Village. We casually strolled around the downtown and people wrote down and shared their ideas, frustrations, and visions for land use planning in the Village.

Everyone is welcome! We want to hear from any past, present or future Village of Lytton, Nlaka'pamux, or Thompson-Nicola Regional District Electoral Area "I" community members.

What is an Official Community Plan?

An Official Community Plan (OCP) is a comprehensive planning document and bylaw that includes a vision, objectives, policies, actions to guide municipal decision-making around land use and development within the Village boundaries.

Why update the current OCP?

Building on parts of the existing OCP (adopted in 1998) that are still relevant, the updated plan will:

  • Include Nlaka’pamux consultation
  • Incorporate new requirements from the Local Government Act
  • Reflect changing Village demographics and needs following the 2021 fire and atmospheric river
  • Set the foundation to attract people to live, work, and invest in Lytton in the next five, 10, or 25 years
