Council approves work program for Official Community Plan update

Type(s)
Village Update

At this week's Council meeting, staff presented the work program for the Village's Official Community Plan (OCP) update.

The plan will be developed over the next year through Nlaka’pamux consultation and community engagement.

What is an Official Community Plan?

An Official Community Plan (OCP) is a comprehensive planning document and bylaw that includes a vision, objectives, policies, actions to guide decision-making around planning and land use.

Why update the current OCP?

The Village of Lytton is starting a year-long project to update the Village’s Official Community Plan (OCP). The plan will be developed by the community through Nlaka’pamux consultation and ongoing engagement opportunities.

Building on parts of the existing OCP (adopted in 1998) that are still relevant, the updated plan will:

  • Include Nlaka’pamux Consultation
  • Incorporate new requirements from the Local Government Act
  • Reflect changing Village demographics and needs following the 2021 fire and atmospheric river
  • Set the foundation to attract people to live, work, and invest in Lytton in the next 5, 10, or 25 years

What is next?

The Village will begin early consultation this summer and launch the project in the fall.
