The Archaeology Branch of the B.C. Ministry of Forests shared the following information about compliance and enforcement presence in Lytton:

  • The Compliance and Enforcement Branch is responsible for ensuring compliance with numerous pieces of provincial legislation including the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA). Compliance and Enforcement officers can provide education and proactive issues management to support people in meeting legislative requirements.
  • Starting this month, Compliance and Enforcement Branch will be coming to Lytton twice a month through the building season to help support rebuild.
  • They will be in the Village next week orienting their staff to the current situation and context.
  • The purpose of their visits is to help residents and the Village understand their responsibilities under the HCA and proactively address issues to facilitate rebuilding in a way that meets requirements under the HCA.
  • It is understood that many residents have not had previous experience with the HCA and it is hoped that this additional support will assist residents and the Village get answers to questions and address issues in a timely manner.
  • Having regular Compliance and Enforcement presence in Lytton is not punitive. The Province is committed to supporting residents get back into their homes and it is hoped that this additional support will facilitate that.
