Archaeology Branch provides updated information for Village property owners

Type(s)
Village Update

The Archaeology Branch provided a recent information package for residents with archaeological guidance for the Village of Lytton's recovery and rebuild. This information is necessary for planning before development to:

  • ensure property owners understand measures they can take to avoid or minimize impacts to archaeological sites,
  • ensure compliance with the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA), and
  • reduce archaeological costs associated with rebuilding.

Read the handout provided by the Archeology Branch describing the requirements of each category and options available to owners to ensure compliance with the HCA.

Chance Finds Procedure

The Archaeology Branch has provided information related to the Chance Finds Procedure for archaeological artifacts and ancestral human remains. This answers the question "What should I do if I find potential archaeological artifacts or ancestral human remains?" during rebuilding.
