Construction and traffic updates

Expected Lytton ferry closure May 10, 2026; use caution in Hobo Hollow area

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit has advised the Village that the Lytton ferry is expected to close due to high water levels on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Construction is underway at the intersection of 1st Street and River Road. Drivers and pedestrians, take extra caution when entering or exiting Hobo Hollow.  Follow the designated routes around the construction zone.

There may be minor delays on 1st Street and River Road. Construction crews will work to minimize delays. Please be respectful, as the construction crew's first priority is safety for workers and the public.

REMINDER: Stay clear of work zones and open trenches. Construction equipment operators have limited visibility, and entering these areas puts you and the work crew at serious risk.

May 10 to 16, 2026

  • 2nd Street will be closed to traffic
  • 1st Street will be open to traffic for the anticipated Lytton ferry closure.
  • Centre Lane will be closed between 1st Street and 4th Street.

May 17 to 23, 2026

  • Centre Lane will be closed between 1st Street and 4th Street.
  • 3rd and 4th Street will be closed to traffic.

May 24 to 30, 2026

  • 3rd and 4th Street will be closed to traffic.

The construction crew is aware of the Canyon Cruise Show & Shine on Sunday, May 17 and other May Day long weekend activities. They will accommodate the car show and clean up, where needed, before the long weekend.

Two-week construction and traffic outlook

Background

Last spring, staff presented an update to Council on sewer and wastewater treatment plant projects to be funded through $7.5 million federal / provincial Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), and funding was confirmed in December 2025. Projects will replace sewer infrastructure damaged during the 2021 fire and improve capacity and infrastructure as Lytton rebuilds.

The Village provides sewer services for properties in the Village of Lytton and Lytton First Nation’s IR 17 and IR 18.

Project overview

Starting this spring and continuing for 4 to 6 months, the West of Main Street Sewer Replacement Project will include the following:

  1. Sewer main replacement in the following areas:
  • Centre Lane from 1st Street to 6th Street, 6th Street to Main Street, and Main Street from 6th to 7th Street
  • West Lane from 1st Street to the Community Hub site on Fraser Street

2. Sewer connections in the following areas:

  • On 1st Street from Main Street to Centre Lane
  • On 2nd Street from West Lane to Centre Lane
  • On 3rd Street from Main Street to Centre Lane
  • On 4th Street from Fraser Street to Centre Lane

3. Associated improvements for storm sewers and water mains

This project will move the Village’s main sewer line, which carries sewage from IR 18 and the north end of the Village, from West Lane to Centre Lane. It will also upgrade the watermain on West Lane and the storm sewer mains on Centre Lane and 6th Street.
