During this week's Council meeting, representatives from Stormy Lake Consulting presented the Village of Lytton Draft Tourism Economic Development Plan. In May 2024, the Village contracted this team to develop a plan between the Village of Lytton and Destination, BC Vancouver Coast and Mountains with funding from the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation.
Objectives
The objectives of the plan are to:
- create a roadmap that fosters economic growth through tourism, while aligning with the community’s values, vision, and capacity, and
- support Lytton's long-term recovery by leveraging its natural assets, location, and resources to develop a sustainable tourism industry.
Key recommendations
The plan included the following 3 key recommendations:
- Position and develop Lytton as the most complete rest stop on Highway #1.
- Build Lytton's tourism foundations before growing into a destination.
- Be community-focused in all tourism development.
The document includes a three-year implementation plan that suggests investments aligned with opportunities for economic growth and current community rebuilding, and a 10-year vision.
