Each week, we share a practical landscaping or building tip from the Village's Fire-Resilient Community Fact Sheet.
Fire-resilient rebuilding tip #17: Keep grass and weeds mowed to less than 4 inches (10cm) in height.
A mowed lawn is a fire-resistant lawn. Grasses shorter than four inches (10 cm) are less likely to burn intensely.
It's also important to keep your lawn healthy by ensuring it gets the right amount of water. A healthy lawn requires about 2.5 cm of water once or twice per week, depending on soil conditions. (Be sure to follow all applicable water restrictions.)
Leaving mulched grass clippings on your lawn will help retain moisture in the soil and provide about a third of your lawn's nutrient needs.
