Sewer Notices and Updates

Last week, we started a new series to help you get to know the Village’s sewer system. In Part 1, we looked at connecting to the sewer system and what's ok to flush.

Part 2: Sewer infrastructure

The catchment area  for the Village of Lytton’s sewer system (displayed in the map) includes properties in the Village and Lytton First Nation’s Klahkamich Reserve (IR 17) and Klickkumcheen Reserve (IR 18)

Most of Lytton’s areas drain by gravity to the existing sewer system. However, CN Rail, which is below the townsite, operates their own lift station to pump sewage into the Village system.

The sewer system consists of about seven kilometres of pipes. These sewer pipes were affected by remediation and backfilling activities following the 2021 Lytton fire, which resulted in substantial debris build-up. To prepare for sewer connections for rebuilt properties, the Village contracted services last year to do camera investigation and flush sewer lines. This work will also help inform repairs, maintenance, and replacements of sewer infrastructure in the future.

Find information and updates about the sewer system.  Next week, we’ll look at the Village’s wastewater treatment plant.
