This week, Council approved an increase in the maximum grant amount from $5,000 to $20,000 to cover required archaeology costs for property owners who are rebuilding on property that they owned on June 30, 2021. Read the Council report.
The archaeology costs per property are higher than originally anticipated and this increase in the grant amount will alleviate these extra costs and help owners to rebuild. The same eligibility criteria will need to be met for this program, which is set to expire June 30, 2025. The program is being funded from the $17.6 million in recovery grant from the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.
The Village will contact owners, who have already completed their archaeology work, to arrange an additional payment towards their costs.
