Village Update
On April 22, Mayor Denise O’Connor and Chief Administrative Officer Diane Mombourquette visited Logan Lake to meet with Mayor Robin Smith, tour municipal facilities, and exchange ideas on community initiatives.
Located around 40 minutes from both Ashcroft and Kamloops, the District of Logan Lake shares similarities with the Village. Its population of roughly 2,200 is comparable to the population of the Lytton area, and Logan Lake also experienced a wildfire event in 2021. Logan Lake has been a FireSmart community for 18 years and has been actively promoting economic development to attract new residents, businesses, and tourism.
Highlights of the information-sharing visit included the following:
- Touring the fire hall built in 2016/2017 and discussing design and operational features that have worked well and areas that could be improved;
- Touring the recreation centre, which includes an ice arena, curling rink, and weight room to learn about community use, operating models, and approaches to funding upgrades;
- Discussing Logan Lake’s housing initiatives and trail development efforts;
- Learning about the Logan Lake Community Forest, which is collaboratively managed with Indigenous engagement for timber harvesting, environmental stewardship, wildfire risk reduction, trail use, and other community benefits.
