Village representatives to attend UBCM Convention: September 22 to 26, 2025

Type(s)
Village Update

From September 22 to 26, members of Council and staff will be attending the annual Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Victoria.

Leaders from municipalities, regional districts, and First Nations gather at the annual convention to discuss key policy issues affecting communities, participate in educational sessions, and meet with provincial ministers and staff to advocate on behalf of their communities.

Last year, Mayor O’Connor was also elected to serve as the Small Communities Representative on the UBCM Board.

The Village has meetings scheduled with following Ministers:

  1. Minister of State for Local Governments and Rural Communities Brittny Anderson to discuss rebuilding challenges and programs that the Village could access to support rebuilding housing and infrastructure
  2. Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Bobbi Plecas to discuss the Village’s desire for a commitment to rebuild the primary health centre in Lytton within the next five years and restore services to their pre-fire levels
  3. Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs Christine Boyle to discuss housing needs in Lytton (to support rebuilding, staffing, attracting new community members, and aging in place) and financial implications of disasters
  4. Minister of Forest Ravi Parmar to discuss ongoing archaeology challenges and their impact on rebuilding in Lytton

We will report back on highlights after the convention.
