Village Update

Last spring, staff presented an update to Council on sewer and wastewater treatment plant projects to be funded through $7.5 million federal / provincial Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), and funding was confirmed in December 2025. Projects will replace sewer infrastructure damaged during the 2021 fire and improve capacity and infrastructure as Lytton rebuilds. The Village provides sewer services for properties in the Village of Lytton and Lytton First Nation’s IR 17 and IR 18.

Recent sewer work and work in progress

In the summer, the Village replaced the sewer main on River Road. A capacity study for the wastewater treatment plant and installation of the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and back-up system are also in progress.

Coming soon: west of Main Street sewer main construction

At this week’s Council meeting, staff provided an update on the next phase of work: west of Main Street sewer main construction.

Timeline

  • Design work for this project began last summer.
  • Construction tenders are closing in early February.
  • Construction is anticipated to begin in early spring and take four to six months.

The project will include the following:

  1. Sewer main replacement in the following areas:
  • Center Lane from 1st Street to 6th Street, 6th Street to Main Street, and Main Street from 6th to 7th Street
  • West Lane from 1st Street to the Community Hub site on Fraser Street

2. Sewer connections in the following areas:

  • On 1st Street from Main Street to Center Lane
  • On 2nd Street from West Lane to Center Lane
  • On 3rd Street from Main Street to Center Lane
  • On 4th Street from Fraser Street to Center Lane

3. Associated improvements for storm sewers and water mains

This project will move the Village’s main sewer line, which carries sewage from IR 18 and the north end of the Village, from West Lane to Center Lane. It will also upgrade the watermain on West Lane and the storm sewer mains on Center Lane and 6th Street.

Scheduling and updates

Final scheduling and sequencing will be confirmed after the Village selects the preferred contractor, and affected residents will receive direct communications. We will share project updates through the Village’s channels.
