Construction and traffic updates

Temporary water service interruptions for next 3 to 4 weeks

There may be intermittent water service interruptions in various areas over the next 3 to 4 weeks, while watermains are replaced.

Most shutdowns are expected to last four hours or less, although some may take longer depending on circumstances. Water service will be restored, as quickly as possible, in an emergency.

Residents are encouraged to keep an adequate supply of water on hand for drinking, cooking, flushing toilets, and cleaning during this period.

Planned water shutdown Fraser Street from 1st Street to 3rd Street: July 14, 2026

A planned full-day water shutdown will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, on Fraser Street between 1st Street and 3rd Street. The shutdown is required to connect new watermains as part of the Village's water system upgrades.

This will affect properties on Fraser Street between 1st Street and 3rd Street and West Lane.

Before the shutdown
  • Make sure you have an adequate supply of water stored for household use.
During the shutdown
  • There will be little to no water pressure. Please minimize water use during this time.
After water service is restored
  • You may notice:
    • Discoloured water caused by disturbed sediment in the pipes
    • Air in your plumbing
  • The water remains safe and has been disinfected. To clear any air or discolouration, run your cold water for several minutes.

Hot weather construction hours

On hot days, the contractor may begin work at 6 a.m. Village staff will monitor the work to minimize inconvenience to residents. When work is next to existing homes, the Village will request that crews begin at regular start times.

Parish Hall parking

If you are using the Parish Hall, please park on Fraser Street for the next few weeks. For those unable to park further away, limited parking is available on 7th Street, west of Centre Lane.

Drivers and pedestrians use caution

  • Heavy equipment is moving throughout the lower Village.
  • Stay clear of work zones and open trenches. Construction equipment operators have limited visibility, and entering these areas puts you and the work crew at serious risk.

July 12 to 18, 2026

  • 2nd Street, Fraser Street, and West Lane will be closed to traffic intermittently through the week.
  • Centre Lane will be closed to traffic from 6th Street to 7th Street and 2nd Street to 3rd Street

July 19 to 25, 2026

  • 6th Street and 7th Street will be closed to traffic intermittently throughout the week.
  • Centre Lane will be closed to traffic from 6th Street to 7th Street and 2nd Street to 3rd Street.

Background

Last spring, staff presented an update to Council on sewer and wastewater treatment plant projects to be funded through $7.5 million federal / provincial Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), and funding was confirmed in December 2025. Projects will replace sewer infrastructure damaged during the 2021 fire and improve capacity and infrastructure as Lytton rebuilds.

The Village provides sewer services for properties in the Village of Lytton and Lytton First Nation’s IR 17 and IR 18.

Project overview

Starting this spring and continuing for 4 to 6 months, the West of Main Street Sewer Replacement Project will include the following:

  1. Sewer main replacement in the following areas:
  • Centre Lane from 1st Street to 6th Street, 6th Street to Main Street, and Main Street from 6th to 7th Street
  • West Lane from 1st Street to the Community Hub site on Fraser Street

2. Sewer connections in the following areas:

  • On 1st Street from Main Street to Centre Lane
  • On 2nd Street from West Lane to Centre Lane
  • On 3rd Street from Main Street to Centre Lane
  • On 4th Street from Fraser Street to Centre Lane

3. Associated improvements for storm sewers and water mains

This project will move the Village’s main sewer line, which carries sewage from IR 18 and the north end of the Village, from West Lane to Centre Lane. It will also upgrade the watermain on West Lane and the storm sewer mains on Centre Lane and 6th Street.
