BC Wildfire Service's Kamloops Fire Centre shared the following information bulletin:
On September 21, the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) released the Fall 2026 Seasonal Outlook that can be viewed on the blog here.
After a summer of elevated wildfire hazard and activity across southern B.C., rain and cooler temperatures in late August and early September moderated fire behaviour, assisting firefighters with initial attack response and progress on currently burning wildfires.
Entering into fall, warmer and drier-than-normal conditions are expected. There is potential for higher-than-normal fire activity later this fall, as well as warm, dry overwinter conditions that could affect existing drought and snowpack levels.
As of April 1 in the Kamloops Fire Centre, we have had 317 fires with a total of 134,458 hectares burnt. In comparison, the ten-year average from April 1 to September 22 is 318 fires with 105,594 hectares burned. This season our initial attack response was highly successful, and we saw 89% of wildfires extinguished at less than five hectares in size.
