The Village of Lytton is hiring a Water and Wastewater Operator Level II. The Village of Lytton is seeking a Water and Wastewater Operator Level II to support our ongoing efforts to rebuild and strengthen our community infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a once-in-a-lifetime project.

Location: Village of Lytton, B.C. (Territory of the Nlaka’pamux)
About Lytton
Nestled in British Columbia’s interior, Lytton is located approximately 3 hours north of Vancouver or 2 hours west of Kamloops. Lytton is in the process of rebuilding following a devastating fire on June 30, 2021. Eventually, the Village is expected to have around 275 residents, with an additional 4,500 people residing in the surrounding region, including vibrant Indigenous communities.
Opportunity
As a key member of the Public Works team, you’ll work closely with the Senior Water / Wastewater Operator to operate, maintain, and repair our water distribution, treatment, wastewater treatment system, and wastewater collection systems. This hands-on role is vital in ensuring safe and efficient service delivery to the community.
This position is initially anticipated to end December 31, 2026; however, there may be an opportunity to extend, based on performance of the successful candidate and the receipt of funding by the Village.
When not actively engaged in water / wastewater duties, this position will assist the public works crew with regular Village maintenance.
Key responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and repair water wastewater infrastructure (pumps, mains, meters, hydrants, etc.)
- Operate and maintain water and wastewater systems to meet Federal and Provincial Regulations.
- Collect samples for Lab testing and deliver to Lab drop off.
- Enforce municipal water regulations and bylaws
- Conduct inspections and testing under the Cross Connection Control Program
- Respond promptly and professionally to public inquiries related to water quality and pressure
- Use SCADA systems and basic software to monitor and report operational data
- Work independently, exercise sound judgment, and participate in after-hours standby rotations
Required qualifications
- EOCP Water Distribution Operator Certificate (Level I)
- EOCP Water Treatment Certificate (Level II)
- EOCP Wastewater Treatment Certificate (Level II)
- EOCP Wastewater Collection Operator Certificate (Level I)
- First Aid Level I, WHMIS, and TDG Certificates
- BCWWA Cross Connection Control Backflow Device Testing Certification
- Cross Connection Control Inspector Certification
- Chlorine Handling and Confined Space Entry Certifications
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and an acceptable Driver’s Abstract
Position details
- Type: Term, Full-Time with potential to be extended to permanent
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (with occasional weekend work/overtime)
- Availability: This position must be able to receive phone calls / system alarms after hours in the event of a system failure / emergency.
- Compensation: $34.00 – $42.50 per hour, based on experience
- Union Affiliation: Covered under the CUPE Collective Agreement
