We're sharing a series of articles to help you get to know the Village's sewer system. This week, we're looking a the wastewater treatment plant.

Part 3: Wastewater treatment plant

The Village of Lytton's wastewater treatment plant receives and processes the community’s wastewater, also known as sewage. The facility is located on River Road.

Through an extensive treatment process, materials are separated from the wastewater and, ultimately, liquid and solid end products are produced. These end products are biosolids and treated water (effluent). The effluent is disinfected by ultraviolet (UV) light before being released into the Fraser River.

The Village’s Public Works team maintains, operates, and repairs the sewer system, including the wastewater treatment plant. Staff do regular sampling and testing to ensure compliance with all federal and provincial regulations.

As we mentioned in Part 1 of this series, it’s important to consider what you flush down the toilet or drains, as it can have impacts on the sewer pipes, wastewater treatment centre, and environment downstream.
