The Village of Lytton has launched a new, redesigned website to provide easier access to information and resources for current and prospective residents, property owners, businesses, and visitors. The new website (lytton.ca) is the culmination of several months of work by Village staff and award-winning web developer Upanup.
Mayor Denise O’Connor said, “We are thrilled to launch the new website. This is an important tool for the Village to share information and encourage participation in engagement opportunities. It was built for ease of use by the community and staff during rebuilding and for years to come.”
Key features
The website incorporates feedback from staff and Council and best practices in website design and accessibility. Some of the new features include the following:
- An emergency alert banner, which can be activated on the home page to provide links to emergency updates
- A searchable community events calendar for Village of Lytton and other community events (community groups can submit events for inclusion on the community calendar)
- Career and bid opportunity postings
- Searchable bylaws and policies
- A living here and visiting section with visitor information and community resources
- A streamlined building permit section
- Additional business resources
- Comprehensive searchable contacts
- Mobile optimization, which means that it resizes automatically for the size of device you are using
Process
The Village of Lytton awarded a contract for website redesign to Upanup at the end of May. Staff did much of the work, which included redesigning the menu structure, editing and writing content, migrating over 1,500 pieces of existing content (such as news articles, images, bylaws, and documents), and adding photos, links, and related content. The project was completed on budget.
Next steps
The website is a living tool that will continue to evolve to respond to changing community needs. In the short term, staff are continuing to add content and photos and replace some municipal forms and documents linked on the site.
