Windows, doors, and shipping container donated for Lytton Fire & Rescue training

Village Update

During his update to Council on November 26, 2024, Emergency Management Consultant Jim MacDonald mentioned that Current Window & Door from Chilliwack has been donating used windows and doors to Lytton Fire & Rescue Service for training. The owner is a long-time volunteer firefighter with more than 25 years of service with the Chilliwack Fire Department.

Lytton firefighters install the windows and doors on a shipping container donated from Nzen’man’ Child and Family Development Centre and use it as a burn building.

During training, the firefighters set fire to the contents and then practice forcibly entering the structure and controlling and extinguishing the fire. The burn building helps firefighters to incrementally build their knowledge of fire behaviour and skills for real-life fire scenarios. Once the end walls and windows are damaged, the firefighters replace them.

Thanks to both Nzen’man’ Child and Family Development Centre for donating the shipping container and Current Window & Door for recycling windows and doors for this important training in Lytton.
