Village Update
At the Regular Council Meeting on July 14, 2026, Council:
- Authorized the Chief Administrative Officer to approve change orders up to a maximum of 2.5% of construction costs or $112,575 for the Village Office project. This authorization will allow the project to keep moving forward without bringing each change request to Council. Staff will include a list of the change orders in the monthly capital projects update to Council.
- Approved an amended motion to direct staff to proceed with developing a parcel tax for water and sewer services for review and consideration of implementation in 2027 and a motion that Council provides direction on the service scope, taxation structure, and properties to be included within the parcel tax;
- Approved implementing a voluntary vegetation management program for the 2026 wildfire season (July 15 to October 15) with a $200 seasonal fee to recover costs for each property participating in the program, and directed staff report back on its effectiveness;
- Received a report on the annual review of the Council Code of Conduct Policy and approved the amendments identified by Council;
- Received an update on Development Services activities, including development and building permit inquiries and applications and initiatives, such as the Official Community Plan Update, park and downtown revitalization, essential housing development, and economic development (Read the June 2026 Development Services Activity Report); going forward, staff will be providing a quarterly, rather than monthly, Development Services updates;
- Approved in principle street improvements, including paving, curbs, and sidewalks (on the north side of roads) downtown and authorized the Chief Administrative Officer to approve additional design work and construction to be funded through the Investing In Canada Infrastructure federal/provincial sewer grant;
- Adopted Road Closure Bylaw (Seventh Street) No. 783, 2026;
- Received correspondence from the Lytton Chamber of Commerce about the Visitor’s Centre and directed staff to invite the Chamber of Commerce to a Committee of the Whole Meeting for further discussion;
- Received a revised letter for Lytton River Festival sponsorship and approved the requests for the Village to provide $1,000 in cash sponsorship and $5,600 of in-kind support.
