Water Notices and Updates

We have been sharing a series to help you get to know the Village's water system. In the final part of this series, we are looking at conservation.

Last week, we touched on water conservation when we looked at the Village’s water storage system. The Village’s water reservoirs have a limited amount of storage capacity. What this means is that during Lytton's hot, dry summers, everyone needs to do their part to manage their water use, so there’s enough water available to fight potential fires.

Last year, the Village of Lytton’s average daily water consumption per person was more than seven times higher than the provincial average. Some of this may be related to leaks throughout the water system, which the Village has been working to repair. Taking steps to conserve water is everyone’s responsibility.

Here are some water conservation tips:

  1. Turn off taps while you brush your teeth or shave.
  2. Take shorter showers.
  3. Install water-saving shower heads and low-flush toilets.
  4. Install water-efficient appliances.
  5. Check for leaks and drips from toilets and pipes.
  6. Sweep driveways and stairs rather than hosing them off.
  7. Collect and re-use rainwater in your garden.
  8. Plant drought-resistant and native plants.
